Princes Square is by any standards one of the great lighting schemes of our generation. The concept for this scheme was created by Andre Tammes of Lighting Design Partnership for the original opening and was remodelled by Jonathan Spiers Associates at a later date.
Unfortunately in recent years the system had begun to breakdown and conflicts were arising between new and old control systems. Some of the luminaires had also begun to reach their end of life and the square had lost its shine.
Lightfolio were engaged to re-examine the installation as a whole and find ways to bring the entire system back into operation by carrying out detailed analysis of the electrical and control systems and liaising with the various manufacturers who had provided the equipment previously.
This became a major task that lasted a number of months. It ended up becoming a series of individual projects that covered evertything from refurbishment and replacement to entirely new systems being designed and installed to cater for new lighting needs that had arisen in more recent years.
Electrical analysis was carried out by ETI Ltd and the possible provision of remote winch access for the filigree balls that hold the theatrical projectors was investigated by Atlas Winch and Hoist Ltd. The whole process was managed by Lightfolio and the majority of work on site was carried out overnight whilst the mall was closed.
