The lighting scheme devised for Abbotsford Steeple was commissioned by Clydebank Rebuilt Ltd as part of the on-going regeneration of Clydebank Town Centre.
The scheme is befitting of the steeple's modernist construction and makes use of cutting edge LED colour change equipment and controls technology, to deliver a unique multi facetted kinetic scheme which can be changed at the press of a button.
This bold scheme includes rings of floating LED neon which mimick the circular cut outs at each landing stage of the steeple. The rings are suspended on delicate catenary wires to give the appearance that they are floating. The light fittings on each side of the steeple are individually addressable at each level affording the opportunity to create a myriad of patterns, colours and effects.
Overall the scheme uses less than 2 kilowatts of energy and has a service life of approximately 15 years. The installation of the lighting was carried out by ETI Scotland, a local contractor conversant with this type of specialist lighting installation.
ETI devised a bespoke installation methodology as part of the design process that minimises the possibility of faults occuring at height on the steeple. All control gear is housed at the foot of the steeple in a cabinet for ease of maintenance.
